The Hoof Beat November 2004

Protecting Neighborhood Councils
by Councilman Greig Smith, 12th District

I received a tremendous response from Neighborhood Council members throughout the entire City regarding my motion that requires individuals hired for the specific purpose to influence a Neighborhood Council to register as a lobbyist. This stems from BFI hiring an individual to discreetly lobby for BFI's multi-million dollar contract with the City for use of the Sunshine Canyon Landfill.

I will not tolerate anyone trying to covertly taint the neighborhood council process. The motion was referred this month to the City's Education and Neighborhoods Committee and I will update you as it moves through the committee process.
